Our Attitudes Create Our Lives

"Good, better, best. Never let it rest, 'Til your good is better and your better is best." -St. Jerome

I remember listening to a sermon in church years ago. The pastor would lead us in declaring this quote over the lives of the congregation which included my husband and our three sons.

It’s about the power of positive thinking. I know it seems arduous to identify negative thinking daily and then speak a positive word over it. In actuality it’s challenging to deal with negative thoughts. I call it stinking thinking.

It boils down to life choices. What do you believe? Are you willing to believe in yourself no matter what others say?

I recall my nursing journey. It was during the era when the instructors would weigh you in every week. I stayed in a constant state of failure. My weight issues consumed me thus the weigh criteria became my challenge. Thankfully this weigh-in criteria abandoned. Can you imagine the stress the students and I went through? Not to mention learning how to care for patients and pass the Boards.

It seemed as if opposition stood in the mirror with me daily. I was determined to become a nurse no matter what. I heard the call at a young age and my parents fostered it by providing me with a nursing tool box, blood pressure equipment etc...

The point is, we can do whatever we set our minds to. It’s important to make a decision and not waiver. People may say, you’ll never finish, it’s costly you can’t afford it. How would you respond? Do you have the audacity to believe in yourself and put an action plan in place?

If I listened to every negative thought and bought into every stereotype the world determined, I would have forfeited my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse.

Here’s the thought; live your dream and no one else’s. Put systems in place to ensure you remain on track, and set yourself apart from naysayers. This includes family, friends and anyone else that attempts to put an obstacle in your path.

You deserve the best life has to offer. Success comes with sacrifice and hard work.

Not stinking thinking!!
