New beginnings start with fertile ground

"Acceptance is not submission; it is acknowledgement of the facts of a situation. Then deciding what you're going to do about it." -Kathleen Casey Theisen

Living life with the right attitude, it's your choice.

I Love Lucy with Lucille Ball, Vivian Vance, Ricky Ricardo and Fred Mertz They were the funniest group of friends I have ever seen. Seemed the fighting between the 4 of them was like a never ending story. But, when troubles knocked at the door, they'd stop fighting, and run to one anothers' aide. We don't find that kind of friendship these days. As a society, we have become introverted and isolated. Perhaps technology has contributed to some of these behaviors. And, I have to admit, we are living in one of the greatest times of our lives. Whether you agree or disagree technology is opening a railway of new inventions. For example:

  1. Electric Cars

  2. Virtual Doctors

  3. Instacart

  4. Curbside services

  5. Television streaming

Who would have thought, electric cars on the road. What are your thoughts, would you drive one? I bet you have lots of questions and ideas yourself.

Virtual visits

I remember my first virtual visit on line with the physician. I scurried around putting away clothing, straightening up the area because I didn't want the doctor to see any clutter. It was quite intimidating to have the physician or anyone matter of fact to invade your private space by virtual systems. Well, I settled in quickly and actually experienced an individualized session with him. There was enough time blocked to talk about issues that mattered to me. In fact, when the doctor and I finished the virtual visit, I left feeling that my questions were answered, and I didn't feel rushed. How are you handling virtual visits with your physicians?

Wow, a system used to order groceries on line through an app. Your food is delivered the same day without leaving home. Different but doable. I recommend menu planning whenever possible and a shopping list before shopping on line.

Keep in mind, many grocery stores are delivering groceries. Be sure to inquire if there are delivery fees. If you are using grocery delivery services, how has it worked for you?

Curbside services

Many restaurants are using curbside service. I recently saw a well known pizza commercial, using a driverless car. My eyes lit up, it was amazing. Of course my amazement turned into who is navigating that car? After settling down my thoughts, I said, is it possible it operates by remote control. Well, you can see, I really didn't know but it intrigued me.

When the car arrived at the customers home, he came outside opened up the car panel and removed his order. I wondered if the car was programmed to remain in park for a time. I laughed because it was so funny to imagine all the things that could happen, as opposed to the fact that the pizza arrived without incident and the order was correct.

Technology is moving so fast, some feel its too difficult to keep up with. The system of driving to the store to pick up your own food is still in place. So, all is not lost.

Television streaming

Newer model televisions have gone to streaming. Cable companies have developed packages that include streaming. Its almost like al carte. Basic stations are offered then there are streaming packages you can add. Not the same as turning the television on and watching your favorite show anymore. Its fancy and some are high tech. With all the changes in the world, anxiety and frustration may set in. So what are strategies to help you navigate through the mice maze of technology;

  1. Discover what really matters to you. Perhaps you are not a television person and music brings you great joy.

  2. If your physician uses virtual technology and it is challenging for you, have a phone conversation with the doctor.

  3. Still nervous about grocery delivery service? It's okay to have a friend or family member drive you to the store. Many of the stores during the pandemic opened early for seniors to shop.

  4. Electric Cars throwing you for a loop? Keep the car you have just be mindful this is the future. However, a close friend or family member when available may assist you in this area.

I'll leave you with this quote from -Paul W. Litchfield

"One realizes the full importance of time only when there is little of it left. Every man's greatest capital asset is his unexpired years of productive life."

Despite our health challenges, look at life as a masterpiece and you are the main canvas.
